Sacraments

Sacraments are times of great joy for children, parents and the parish family.  Immaculate Conception and Families come together to celebrate as a faith community during these times of Grace. There are 7 Sacraments in the Catholic Faith.  They are:

  • Baptism
  • Confession
  • Communion
  • Confirmation
  • Marriage
  • Holy Orders
  • Sacrament of the Sick

When a child is born a joy fills the heart that is love beyond anything on has ever felt.  Gods loves us more than we love our children.  A baptism is a birth into God’s family. The Sacrament of Baptism is received to become a disciple and to become part of the body of Christ.  Parents wishing to have their child baptized may call Donna Konwinski at 847-433-0130 to schedule preparation class and baptism.

Adults interested in baptism, interested in attending Baptism preparation class, or learning about becoming a Catholic are welcome to attend the RCIA program, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.  Contact Ann Moorman at 847-433-0130

The Sacrament of Confessions is a time in which one confesses his/her sins to a priest.  It is available on Saturday at 11am and 4:15 pm.

The Sacrament of Communion is usually received for the first time in second grade.  Communion is considered the reception and consumption of the actual body and blood of Christ.  Call the Parish Office to register for preparation classes. Contact Stewart Adams at 847-433-0130

The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually received for the first time in 8th grade however adults may be confirmed if they have been baptized and have received first Holy Communion.  Serious attention is given to its preparation and we also expect to make a sincere commitment to the program in its three aspects: classes, service projects, and a retreat. Contact Stewart Adams at 847-433-0130

The Sacrament of Marriage is the joining of a man and a woman to live as husband and wife.  It is a sign to all of the closeness, the love and wonder of the presence of God.  To learn more about marriage preparation go to www.familyministries.org and call Immaculate Conception 6 months to a year in advance. Contact Donna Konwinski at 433-0130 to make arrangements.

The Sacrament of Holy Orders occurs when a man becomes a deacon, priest, or bishop and is enabled to minister in Christ’s name and that of the Church. If you feel called to be a Catholic priest information may be found at www.chicagopriest.com.

The Sacrament of Anointing or the Sick is performed by a priest using Oil of the Sick. The priest anoints the sick person’s forehead and hand with the oil; associated not only with bodily healing but with forgiveness of sins. If a loved one needs this Sacrament contact the Parish Office at 847-433-0130
